Based on the preliminary round of online interviews conducted on 5-7th of August 2020, the following candidates are shortlisted for the final round of online interviews for MS admission.

Note

  1. The final online Interview is scheduled on August 17, 18 and 19 (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Time: 2 to 6 PM.

Update on MS admission process – July 2020

Update on MS admission process.

Dear shortlisted candidates for MS admission, please note the following points.

1. Due to COVID 19, the written test is replaced with an online Preliminary interview.

2. The online Preliminary interviews will be scheduled between August 5 and 10, 2020.

3. Online Preliminary interviews will be conducted using Google Meet. The time and date of the interview of each candidate will be put on this website by 31st of July.

4. After the Preliminary interview, a new shortlist will be prepared and only these candidates will appear for the Final interview.

5. Dates for the Final interview will be announced later.

6. Syllabus for preliminary interview will be GATE 2020 Metallurgical Engg Paper syllabus.

If you are a shortlisted candidate, a valid GATE score or equivalent is still required for the following categories:

1. Candidates applying for MS under the Full Time (HTRA) category.

2. Candidates applying for Direct PhD under the Full time (HTRA) category. GATE score (or equivalent) is required for applicants from non-CFTI institutes and from CFTI institutes with CGPA less than 8/10.

3.Candidates applying for Regular PhD under the Full time (HTRA) category. GATE score (or equivalent) is required for candidates with MSc degree or with candidates with Integrated (dual degree) degrees. 

Without a valid GATE score or equivalent, you will not be allowed for the written test

6. OBC/SC/ST community certificate original with an self attested copy, if the candidate belongs to OBC/SC/ST category. (OBC candidates to submit Valid Non-Creamy layer certificate in the prescribed format)
7. Relieving order/Resignation acceptance letter as per enclosed format for employed / external / part time candidates.
8. Part time scholars residing within the commutable distance from IIT Madras have to submit NOC and permission letter from the organization to do course work. Institute will waive the residential requirement and in that case leave not required for attending the courses.
Bank details for Travel Allowance (TA) reimbursement for PhD applicants Regular and direct PhD (only HTRA) applicants are eligible for reimbursement of second class single to & fro rail fare from your place of residence to Chennai by the shortest route on submission of your claim in the prescribed format with all relevant particulars (Train No., Coach No. Ticket No. Fare paid, Date of Journey, Station from and to etc.).
A candidate is entitled for a single TA as above even as he / she may attend interview in more than one department in the same trip.
To enable us to process your TA claims please have the following details with you along with your travel documents (ticket details)1. Name as appears in bank account

MS/PhD admissions

The next round of MS/PhD admissions, written test and interview, will be held on November 29 (Thursday) and 30 (Friday). This is for admission in January 2019, through the anytime admission mode. The cut-off date for applications is October 31 (Wednesday). More information regarding the application process can be accessed at https://research.iitm.ac.in/. 

Please note that this round of applications is under the anytime admissions mode, for candidates ready to join in January 2019.

International Symposium for Research Scholars (ISRS)

isrs-lgThe Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME), IIT Madras in association with IIM Chennai Chapter, has been organising the biennial symposia, National Symposium for Research Scholars (NSRS), on Materials Science and Engineering, since 1996, at the national level. This was later transformed into International Symposium for Research Scholars (ISRS) since 2004. This year’s symposium, ISRS-2016, is the seventh in the series of international symposia and will be held from 21-23 Dec 2016 at IIT Madras. ISRS is devoted solely to research scholars (MS & PhD students) so that they can interact with their peers from all over the world and exchange research ideas, which can help in improving their quality of research, analytical and presentation skills.
