About
Dr. V.Sampath is currently a Professor (HAG) in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at IIT Madras. He has been working for IIT Madras for more than 32 years now, joining as Lecturer in April 1990 and rose through the levels of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. He received his B.E. (Hons.) Degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from NIT Trichy, and M.E. and Ph.D. Degrees in Metallurgy from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research interests revolve around smart materials, especially shape memory alloys, composite materials, and theoretical/modelling studies of shape memory alloys. He has vast experience in the field of shape memory alloys leading to the development of several NiTi-, Fe- and Cu-based SMAs. Currently, his research group mainly focuses on the functional fatigue behaviour of SMAs and the development of novel high-temperature shape memory alloys for critical applications. Due to the current pandemic situation, his group has now started working on the design of new shape memory alloys for diverse applications involving theoretical and modelling studies.
His research has been supported by various funding agencies,...
